Taoiseach Enda Kenny today called on retailers across Ireland to step up to the plate and see who is “top of the shops” as he launched the Retail Excellence Ireland Awards 2012.
The champions of Ireland’s retail industry are set to be recognised in the 16th annual Irish Retail Awards. The 2012 Awards will be presented to retail stores, companies, websites and individuals who best demonstrate evidence of outstanding practice in retail and which makes a positive difference to the retail experience being delivered to the Irish consumer. Retail Excellence Ireland is the largest retail industry group in Ireland with over 9,500 store members employing over 110,000 people.
The Irish Retail Awards were established in 1997 by Retail Excellence Ireland to promote best practice standards and reward excellence in the Irish Retail Industry. The Retail Excellence Ireland Awards are the benchmark by which the best in Irish retail are judged. The awards programme is the largest of its type boasting over 600 total entries annually.
All store entrants will be visited by a mystery shopper, with those meeting demanding service and standards criteria making it to the Top100 Stores. A team of store assessors will then visit each of the Top100 Stores, selecting the Top50 stores and then the final Top30. The winning stores will be selected based on the reports data gathered and a review of store photography and in-store video recording evidence. McElhinney’s of Donegal, one of Ireland’s largest department stores, was the overall winner in 2011. Other winners included: Topaz; O’Brien’s Wine, Beer amp; Spirits; DocMorris Unicarepharmacy; Awear; McDonald’s; Applegreen; Gifts Direct; The Butler’s Pantry and; Donnybrook Fair.
“The retail industry plays a key position in the Irish economy employing over 250,000 people. The Retail Awards have an important part to play in recognising the dedication and commitment to excellence of so many Irish retailers. I would encourage all in the retail industry to enter and to help drive the industry forward,” the Taoiseach said.
